Extra Credit

Wow, this year is already almost over. English has been a lot of fun with you Mrs. Gilman; and I'm sure next years freshman will be saying the same thing. The year has been fun and particularly easy in some parts. I'd say my least favorite assignment was drawing Boo Radley's house because well for one I am not in the least bit artistic, but I am sure other students actually thought it was fun. Art just is not my thing. My favoirte assignment of the year was definately what we are working on now. The Odyssey movie project. This is my favorite assignment because you let us choose our groups and then movie making its self is just fun. I only hope you get a group of freshman and great as us, haha.

O Brother Where Art Thou

In O Brother Where Art Thou, I enjoyed a lot of parts in the movie. I think this was the best movie we have watched all year. Some parts I thought were funny was when Pete got "turned into frog". Another part I found hilarious was the cow part. I thought this was funny because the cow got shot ten times and still was able to get in front of the police car. I also enjoyed when George Nelson who robbed the banks said "I hate cows more than coppers." Haha. I found that very funny.

The Prologue Underworld

This movie clip from Underworld is rated R but isn't actually bad so don't think I am some rebel for having a rated R clip.

This movie Underworld has a very big similairity with Romeo and Juliet. Just like the Romeo and Juliet there are two mortal enimies, the Lycans, and the Vampires. The families have always been in a war but now one of the main Lycans and the main character or who is a vampire have fallen in love. They know them being together would be total chaos but they still go through with it.

Romeo and Juliet Act 2

Something interesting that happened in act two to me was the whole idea of Romeo and Juliet getting married after only knowing each other for one day. I found this interesting because Romeo and Juliet's families hate each other and yet they want to get married only after knowing each other for one day. I think this decision of Romeo and Juliet will greatly impact their future with some tragedy.

To me doing that is a little to sudden. I mean getting married at that young of an age after knowing each other for only one day! I mean come on it's really really sudden and not subtle at all. If I was Romeo I would of at least waited for a little while and got to know Juliet better before I asked her to marry me. I don't think I have ever been in the same situation because none of my friends or I are crazy enough to do that.

Characters in Romeo and Juliet

One character I can really picture is Romeo. I think Romeo is a really emotional person when it comes to girls and when he finds "the one", but really he can just move on when he finds another girl. I think Romeo would look like a rather tall person with darker hair and attributes that girls really seem to enjoy. If I met Romeo in real life I think it would be a cool experience because he has an interesting personality that is in a weird way similar to mine so I think we would get along.

A person I know that is similar to Romeo would be one of my friends who I'm not going to name but he always seems to get down when he likes a girl and she doesn't like him or his girlfriend breaks up with him. Sooner or later though he finds another girl and just moves on. For example in the book Romeo gets really depressed about Rosalinne not caring for him the same way he cares for her, but when he meets Juliet his feelings for Rosalinee are gone and new ones for Juliet are rising.

Romeo and Juliet premonitions

Premonitions to me are just like dejavu. I have had many of these come out of nowhere. For example I will have a dream I am kicking a soccer ball and I kicked it off a trash can and it hit me in the face. Then two months later it will happen to me and I totally remember the dream and I always just sit there with confusion. I didn't really know it was going to happen that day of all days, I mean I didn't really think it was going to happen at all.

Some things I could of recognized to prevent me doing these things that were in my dreams were things that happened previously. Like I almost hit a car in that same dream, fell down my driveway (it was icey outside), and the same things happened two months later. I guess I could of prevented it but like I said I didn't recognize any of the events that happened before it. In the end it wasn't that bad my nose bled a little bit but I didn't care all I thought about was how my dream was two months before this and it happening just then.

Shakespear Themes

Shakespear has many infulences in todays modern plays and movies and I am going to talk about the movie She's the Man. In She's the Man it has mistaken identity and a love triangle. In this movie a girl pretends to be her brother because the girls soccer team got cut. During this her brother is really in London. Pretending to be her brother cause many problems. She is in love with her roomate, her roomate is in love with a girl who is in love with her(who really thinks she is a boy but she is only pretending to be a boy.)

This clearly shows that this has Shakespearian theme and plot in it because he always had love triangles and mistaken identity's in his plays. The creators I think had realized how great the Shakespearian theme was and created one of the biggest copycats of his themes. They used love triangle, mistaken identity and more to make the plot of this movie all from Shakespear's ideas.

Shakespear

My preception of Shakespear is weird. I think what I like about Shakespear is that he has an interesting way of putting things and acting his ideas out to full potential. For example, I like when in A Midsummers Night Dream the whole story line is simple but Shakespear made the plot more complex and had the enitire movie theme intertaining. One thing that I am sure gets a lot of people confused is the language because we all know Shakespear is not from our time so it does get difficult for me at times to understand where things are going and what they're are saying but over all I think it's good.

Over the next two months, I am looking forward to Romeo and Juliet just because it seems like a very cool topic to read and learn about in class. Then again im probably not as excited as you or all the girls because I'm sure you guys think it's romantic. I don't know very much going into this lesson but I'm sure I will learn a lot from it in our class. Over all, I think this will be a fun unit and my knowledge of Romeo and Juliet and Shakespear in general will increase.

The worst part in Animal Farm

The worst part in Animal Farm, for me was definately when Boxer gets hurt and was supposed to be going to the vet but really went to the slaughter house. I have come to really like Boxer in the book because he is strong and hardworking and he doesn't deserve to be punished after the work he ahs done around the farm. Also I think this is the worst part because the pigs yet again lie about the situation.

Boxer ended up becoming my favorite character, so to see him get treated unfairly and about to get slaughtered is a shame. Also I think it's sad that the pigs have to go to lieing just to get what they want, when they want. I don't think its fair to the other animals to be lied to everyday and to have the pigs break the commandments that they wrote. I think it's wrong for them to be unjust and cruel and unfair .

My Winter Break

During my winter break, I have done very many intriquing activities and I am going to talk about them. Well my winter break started off with a wednesday that no one thought was going to be a snow day, but ended up becoming the start of the most snow I have ever seen. The first day of winter break, well I was just amazed how much snow we had and so got some friends over and of course who can see snow and not throw it at their friends. So the start of the day was with a snowball fight and then we went sledding extreme style at a park nearby called L.B.A. The extreme sledding style for us was going down backwards and standing up on our sleds going down a hill that was rather steep. Then that day we just went back in still in shock that the snow was coming down and we just relaxed.
The next day to our surprise there was more snow to be found. That day I was glad becuase well I had three tests that day and I was excited to miss all three of them. Then came friday and no school then and everybody was in sheer joy I talked to. Well don't get me wrong I loved the fact that break was starting sooner than expected but more snow came and then the shovel nazi (aka my mother) made my brother and I shovel the snow off our driveway which not only happens to be long, but steep and wide too! So after four hours of shoveling the ice and snow off we finally got done and then we rested. But this time not to our surprise that saturday we went out and shoveled more but this time not as bad.
So that saturday I was filled with glee to be done shoveling and just realize, "Hey, I'm on winter break!"and at that excited that christmas was near. At christmas it was relaxing and I got some awesome clothes that you and the class will end up seeing eventually and a computer that I partially paid for. In the afternoon we had a nice I guess you could say linner (between lunch and dinner), having turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and some other family foods that we have on special occasions.
This has been my holiday story and I'd tell more but the rest I just sat around and rotted my brain out like most breaks, but all in all, it was very relaxing and a nice time off from school.
